Tuesday, Sikiru Akande, the commissioner of police for Adamawa State, led a sizable contingent of officers to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) House, the starting point of today's national demonstration in support of the striking university professors.

The long line of personnel carriers and weapons trucks being led by armed police officers who were intimidating to look at were seen by News Direct in front of the gate leading into Labour House.

The NLC state chairman, Emmanuel Fashe, and the commissioner of police were reportedly speaking inside the structure.

It was unclear at the time if the police were there to quell the demonstration or to protect the demonstrators. Tuesday, a large contingent of police officers were brought to the Nigeria Labour Congress by Sikiru Akande, the commissioner of police for Adamawa State.
