At his mansion in Abeokuta, Ogun state, former president Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday welcomed Saka Matemilola Adelola, the new Olowu of Owu.

At his Ita-Eko home in the Abeokuta north LGA, Obasanjo, the Balogun of Owu, welcomed the new king with Owu natives and other kingmakers.

According to Premium Times, the former president bowed in front of the Olowu nominee to greet him.

The Olowu-designate was transported from Obasanjo's residence to Adedotun Gbadebo, Alake of Egbalandpalace ,'s for a courtesy visit, and then brought to Oke-Ago Owu to start his seclusion as part of the procedure for his coronation.

Obasanjo expressed appreciation to the state government for approving Metemilola's appointment as the new Olowu and assured the ruler of the people's support and a peaceful transition.

This is the first time in our history that a new king will take office quickly to fill a vacancy. We must maintain our culture. We must prevent culture from going extinct since it is the foundation of our life, he stated.

"We (the kingmakers) carried out our duties as required. His appointment was authorized by the state government.

As the new Olowu of Owu kingdom, "I want to assure you (Matemilola) of my unwavering support and the support of the entire boys and girls of Owu kingdom."

Following the passing of the late Adegboyega Dosumu on December 12, 2021, the Olowu stool became vacant.
